Well, when you compare it to its predecessor, Lenovo A 6000, you’ll think that someone just stretched the corners and flattened it. It looks somewhat similar to its previous counterpart. The phablet’s body is dominated by sheer plastic, with only the volume and power buttons being made of metal. The rounded edges of the device make it easy to hold. It is 76.2 mm wide and only 8 mm thick, which explains why it weighs only 140 grams. The keys are not backlit, which might cause a problem if you’re using the phone in the dark. The front camera is placed properly and so is the primary camera. It possesses a dual LED flash. When it comes to resolution, both have the 720×1280 resolution. The rear cover is removable and underneath it lies the battery, two micro-Sim card slots, and a microSD card slot.
Want to talk about some strong points? Bring out the display. The Lenovo A7000 has a 5.5-inch HD IPS display and it strikes the perfect balance in terms of colors, but when viewed at an angle, the screen shows distorted cool colors – something which could’ve been better. Gaming is a piece of cake now, with every game thrown in working flawlessly. Even Asphalt 8 runs without choking, so it’s game on! Also, the excess heating goes for a toss, which is a good sign.
When it comes to storage, the results are decent and there isn’t any upgrade. The A7000 phablet has an internal storage of 8GB, of which only 5GB can be used, just like its predecessor. But it outclasses its previous counterpart by having 2GB RAM. There is a microSD card slot which can be expanded up to 32GB. Lenovo A7000 comes with 4G support, but only on one SIM, the second SIM can only have access to 2G network.

Lenovo A7000 is the first smartphone to hit the market with Android 5.0 Lollipop with Lenovo’s Vibe UI on top (update available), so it’s much better than its previous partner A6000 which runs on well established Kitkat. The 3.0 skin provides the users with a number of customization options and there is also a separate theme app which makes the whole process a lot easier. This helps the phone’s cause to perform remarkably well, with exceptionally smooth scrolling and flawless app launches. It’s, in fact, a pleasant surprise to see this smartphone not falter at all, delivering a stellar performance.
It supports 4G LTE support, along with Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0. Other than Lenovo’s own Share it and Sync apps, most of the other pre installed apps can be uninstalled.
Lenovo has added a number of software features to this smartphone. It is the first smartphone with Dolby Atmos, supporting surround sound technology. But you do need to invest on a good pair of headphones if you’re to enjoy that. Dolby Atmos is an equalizer app, which has a resounding effect once the settings are changed. And not only that, you can also restrict the apps for others to use when they take up your phone, so your privacy remains unharmed. It also ensures that no accidental buttons are pressed while the phone is in your pocket.
Camera Quality
If this smartphone is the Achilles’ shield, the camera is its heel. Although it might seem great with its rear camera being 8MP, the daylight photos might seem incomplete as the colors lack punch. Want to take out some flaws? Take low-light pictures and you will know what the phone lacks. The autofocus, which should be a good add-on feature, is, in fact, the problem during videos as the camera struggles to hold focus if moved slightly.
The 5MP front camera is decent as it captures good selfies and is handy during Dubsmash videos. The front camera is still doable with decent quality videos, so Skype isn’t a problem for you at least. The only thing disappointing is the quality of the lens used in the phone.
To conclude, the camera is passable and not on par with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 2 or the Honor 4x. The pics might not be excellent, but good enough to post them on Instagram.
